A little more about the 7th

The Group

The Group is an 'Open Sponsored Group'. This means that we are sponsored by St Peter's Church. However we will take children from ALL backgrounds regardless of creed or colour. The Group was founded in 1929 at St Peter's and has been there ever since. The facilities at St Peter's are supplied at a Subsidised rate and the Church is very supportive. Membership is open to both sexes though as this has only just started.

St Peter's does host a thriving Brownie and Girl Guide Group. So we don't want to tread on any sensitivities.

Group management

Briefly, the Group has uniformed management - the leaders and helpers and non uniformed management - the executive committee. The role of the executive committee is to raise and manage the group's funds as well as to make policy decisions based on guidance provided by the Scout Association. This allows the uniformed management to concentrate on looking after the children (they do a lot more than this!). All of the uniformed management must attend training courses run by the Scout Association to obtain their Warrant. Even some of the non uniformed management attend training courses. If you feel that you would like to join the management team, please contact us.

Gift aid

Gift aid is the more flexible replacement for the various old schemes for donating tax efficiently to charities. We have registered as a charity under the Royal Charter that the Scout Association holds. If you are a UK tax payer and are willing to fill out a simple (very simple) form then we can claim the tax relief on your payments to the Group. We can claim 28% extra back from the government. If you want to fill out a form - one per family and one time only - please contact us.

How much do I pay and where does the money go?

The current rate of subscription is £85 per year if paid in a single lump sum, or two instalments of £45.00 each - 1st due 16th March 2010 and the 2nd due 14th September 2010. The money we raise from subscriptions will pay for Scout Association 'Capitation' or Insurance; the rest goes to general maintenance and the purchase of equipment. We aim not to make a profit or loss each year. This current rate and frequency of payment is under review at the moment.

How do I know that my child is safe?

All of the management of the Group know how important your child's safety is, especially in this day and age. All those involved in running the Group are police vetted by the Scout Association before they can take up their position. As far as adventurous activities are concerned, we can only take children out these sorts of activities if we are fully trained and tested to the standards laid out by the Scout Association.
